It works! November 28, 2009 J. M. Leach (Cypress, TX USA) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought one of these things on a whim, and boy, am I ever glad I did!
I've got four cats that started out life as feral, and they mind about as well as cats usually do. They usually come when called, but sometimes they ignore you in the way that only cats can. When trying to round them up for dinner, this thing is spectacular! It allows you to herd the rogue kitties into their little feeding room. And several times, it's saved one or more of my babies who were about to get into fights with other neighborhood cats.
I'm ordering another three of them, so I have one next to every exit, to break up kitty fights and run off threatening dogs. They don't like the noise, and they really scatter. (I wouldn't recommend using the laser light though, might hit them in the eyes.)
Two thumbs up and five stars.
Is the sound directional? January 21, 2010 William C. Buschor 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Just received mine...tried to zap squirels 15 feet away. My Shiz Tzu was 4 feet behind me and I thought he was going to have a heart attack.
What goes????
Doesn't seem worth it. October 26, 2009 N. Agneta (Philadelphia Suburbs, PA USA) 5 out of 13 found this review helpful
Maybe this would come in handy with vicious animals. With any just plain annoying dogs, cats, squirrels, etc. that someone would want to use this on, they start to run away before you get close enough to use it. The range is maybe 5-10 feet at most. I tried some squirrels right out the window (maybe 10-15 feet) and nothing happened.
Also, it's touted as being harmless to animals, but there are multiple warnings on the device about avoiding direct eye exposure to the laser light (the light is a separate button, so it is possible to use without the light). So, when you're pointing this at some dog or cat coming towards you, is pointing the laser light going to damage their eyes? We thought it would be good to get to keep the squirrels and larger animals away from the birds and bird feeders, but we don't want to blind somebody's pet! Also, on the top of the muzzle above the laser light, there is a warning tag that says: "AVOID EXPOSURE Laser radiation is emitted from this aperture." I don't know if this is a similar warning to the eye exposure one, or something else. You can even see the light (pretty brightly, I might add) right through the yellow plastic, so I covered the specific areas with tape (even the main laser aperture). I figure I won't even use the laser, but in case I or someone else do, the light won't come out at full intensity.
Either way, I haven't been able to get close enough to an animal to test this thing out. So I would suggest saving your money and just yell and wave your arms at the animals. By the time you get close enough to use it, you've already scared them away.
Not for bulldogs May 4, 2010 L. Donato (The high Sierra Mtns, CA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this item for my two, extremely bark-y bulldogs. The first time I used it, my male reacted to it (spinning around in surprise to look me); my female not so much. It seemed to work the next 2 times to quite them down. I think what did this product in was the vacuum! Their instinct to attack my vacuum completely over rode this item & it is now useless! They don't even acknowledge it any more!! I replaced the battery hoping it was that, but no such luck. So, if you have a very stubborn/bullheaded bred of dog it would be not only a waste of your money, but also a loss of hope (a little bit, because the constant barking can drive a person nuts!).
