Better than motion activated switches November 12, 2009 J. Cullen (Boston, MA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
A push on - auto off light switch that remains on X seconds after the last motion is detected in the room.
Other reviewers have indicated that having to push a button to turn on the light is a "bad" feature. Actually, if you are in any room which has sufficient daylight, you will not want to have a motion activated light. Motion activated lights turn on whether or not the light is needed when motion is detected. That is great for a garage or a basement where light is always needed, but in most lighting situations it is a detriment. You don't want a light turning on in a bedroom, kitchen, or living room during the middle of the day just because you walk into the room. That is a waste of energy and light bulb life. This switch won't turn on unless you tell it to and it will turn off if the room is unused. What could be more perfect?
In short, it is an ideal switch for daylight lit rooms. It is especially great for kids who always turn on, but never turn off the lights!
Beware, this is "Auto-Off" only, not "Auto-On" November 15, 2009 Will Hocksteader 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This product works well, but remember it is an "Auto-Off" product only, it will not turn "On" the lights, for them to turn on you have to press the "On" button. I didn't realize or see that when I bought it so I didn't use it where I intended, but I put it in a garage and now I don't have to worry about anyone turning off the lights.
highly recommend September 12, 2009 E. D. Head (Georgia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We installed these in the stairwell were we constantly were forgetting to hit the switch as we left and the boxdoor coming in the back door. We set it at a minute and it goes off on it's own. You have to turn this one on as you enter the area and you can turn it off if you choose but if you forget it will take care of turning off the lights on its own
Works great, easy to install April 12, 2010 kdea473 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This light switch was installed in the bedroom of a 16-year-old boy who *never* turned off the light (even before he fell asleep), leading to much frustration (and higher electric bills!) that I was tired of dealing with.
I wanted an auto-off switch that would not turn *on* simply because someone walked into the room (as the bedroom gets plenty of daylight, and we didn't need it to turn on if he rolled over while asleep).
The switch installed simply (the enclosed directions were pretty good, as I'm not an electrician), and most of my time was spent going up and down the stairs to turn off the electrical circuits.
When there is power to the switch, the little green "on" light glows. If you push the button to turn on the light, the yellow "auto" light comes on. As long as it senses motion, the light stays on. We adjusted the timer for 15 or 20 minutes, and it seems to be working just fine.
No complaints here. We were pleased to find an auto-off-only light switch (our local hardware superstores did not stock them) and the price was certainly reasonable. Based on the ease of this product, we will likely be replacing switches in other bedrooms as well.
A "NO" Motion sensor May 7, 2009 Charon (TX) 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
Me duped too. I wish the other review was available when I bought this a month ago. The motion sensor is a NO motion sensor. It does not turn the lights "ON" by motion, only "OFF" when motion stops. I do not see how that is helpful in most applications. I humbly request they stop making this item since it aggravated me so much.
