The alarm setting does have a generous delay built in, and they say that is for leaving, but with the magnets apart (door open), I'm not sure of the thinking there. The chime setting is instant set, and both work for me. My main complaint is that the magnet wire - as well as a jumper wire traversing the back of the unit - both emanate from the upper keyhole used to hang the unit! There are wires where you are supposed to slide a screw head - seriously dumb. I am using double sided foam tape instead, but again, the wire that runs from top to bottom outside of the unit makes tape placement tricky and tape area smaller. Also, slide switch has OFF in center, with chime at bottom and alarm at top. Preferable would have been OFF/CHIME/ALARM in that order so you aren't fiddling with finding center detent when visitors arrive at night or first thing in the morning. Minor quibble though. The idiotic placement of the wires cost this unit two stars. The chime isn't exactly "pleasant" as described, it is a very electronic sounding two-tone that repeats three times, and the alarm is "as advertised", very loud - louder than your smoke alarm, by far. If it went off next to an intruder, he would probably leave a puddle of DNA.

I purchased this alarm to stop my children from going in places where they shouldn't. I connected it to my bedroom door. The alarm is VERY loud, and is quite effective! I also gave one to my daughter to use on her kitchen door to prevent intruders. Good product!

Purchased, returned and got full credit/refund. Either alarm casing or battery was defective. Never got it to sound ..

Pros: it works, and its loud
Cons: it runs off of little watch batteries, it can not be used has a door chime because it sounds like a fire alarm, it's just a loud siren, and it already is giving a low battery after it only went off one time.
I would not recommend this product to anyone.
